Sample record
ExamplePothos by the kitchen window
Golden Pothos · Epipremnum aureum
Light
About 1,200 lux at midday — bright, indirect light.
Right in this plant's comfort band (800–2,500 lux).
Why?
Pothos evolved under a forest canopy: plenty of light, but filtered. Direct sun scorches the leaves; a dim corner slows growth and fades the variegation. We measure lux with your phone so you're not guessing.
Soil & water
Slightly moist 2 in / 5 cm down, 6 days since the last drink.
Wait — check again in 2 days.
Why?
We never water by calendar. This pot (6 in / 15 cm, chunky aroid mix) usually dries in 8–10 days in your light. Roots need air between waterings; watering wet soil is the fastest way to root rot.
Health
Two yellow lower leaves, new growth firm and glossy.
Mild — most likely the soil stayed wet too long after that cool week.
Why?
Yellow lower leaves plus wet soil points to roots asking for air, not for food. New growth looking good tells us the plant is already recovering. We say 'most likely' on purpose: you'll confirm it by watching the next two leaves.
